- LISTEN to other composers, past and present, and to all styles of music.
- LOOK at the scores, preferably while listening to the piece.
- STUDY music theory, aural skills, orchestration, and music history.
- ABOVE ALL: compose, compose, compose!!! The best way to improve is to just do it.
