The Sterne resources are really cool! It seems like some of that would also fit well in The Music Business and some of the studio-related stuff in Theory IV. TobyRush (talk) 18:58, 6 August 2020 (UTC)

Sterne's work extends to a number of different topics. His research gets us to think about music in space (which relates, of course, to questions of acoustics), musical transmission (how mp3's have been designed in a way to anticipate how we hear and, moreover, had shaped our listening practices) while also problematizing notions around fidelity to any original source, a mythical idea that pervades musicology and music theory. Most important, Sterne pushes to think about how music technology has and always mediates our experience with music and sound and allows us to think about how technology and different kinds of notations operate in different ways. Finally, given that we have a tendency to think about recordings AS performances (w/o mediation), Sterne reminds us that, in short, they aren't! They're different beasts and need to be treated as such.
