Assemblage is the musical representation of an assembly line. It begins quietly, with small motives growing and combining. When the final product is constructed, it emerges, moves on, and fades away in the distance.

The ensemble should be arranged surrounding the audience (front, back, and both sides) if at all possible. If it could also be arranged at multiple levels (e.g., balcony, mezzanine, pit), that would be even better.

No conductor should be used unless good ensemble demands one. Dynamic changes are indicated without crescendos and decrescendos, but these should be applied as the dynamics change: crescendo to louder dynamics, decrescendo to softer dynamics. Likewise, there are no specific articulations indicated. Performers should select a "character" for each part that seems appropriate for that music.
